ESCALANTE, Utah, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- A single-engine air plane crash Utah's Garfield County resulted in the deaths of two people, local officials said.

The plane struck a transmission line about 3:30 p.m. Saturday between the towns of Escalante and Boulder, The Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Garfield County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becki Bronson said the plane had taken off earlier from an airstrip in Garfield County for a recreational flight.

The names of the deceased, both of whom were from Escalante, had not yet been released.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
