PORTLAND, Ore., Jan. 20 (UPI) -- One pedestrian was killed and four were injured Sunday when a vehicle went up on a sidewalk in the popular Old Town area of Portland, Ore., police said.

The accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. PST when a pickup truck and taxi cab collided in an intersection, sending one of the vehicles on to the sidewalk and into a group of people.

One of the people died at the scene and the other four were rushed to area hospitals in unknown condition, police said in a written statement.

Both drivers were cooperating with investigators, who closed down the busy intersection for several hours.
