HILLTOWN, Pa., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- A Philadelphia-area businessman was killed Friday by armed thieves who invaded his suburban home, police said.

Investigators said two men spent several hours in the house in Hilltown in Bucks County, The Morning Call of Allentown reported. They left Joseph Canazaro, 48, dead, and his girlfriend and her 12-year-old son tied up.

WFMZ-TV in Allentown reported that Canazaro was shot.

Hilltown Police Chief Chris Engelhart said the men stole guns and cash and Canazaro's Lincoln pickup truck, which was found abandoned. He released few details, including where the truck was discovered.

Canazaro was a contractor and partner of a bar in Ambler.

"The investigation is still very fluid," Englehart said.

The girlfriend and her son managed to free themselves after the gunmen left, police said. Another son was at school.

Canazaro lived on a large property in a semi-rural area about 30 miles north of Philadelphia.
