SAN DIEGO, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- A Marine recruit was taken into custody after attempting to flee boot camp by running across the runway at San Diego's Lindbergh Field, officials said.

The 22-year-old recruit, whose name was not reported, was still in custody Friday after being arrested wearing only a T-shirt and boxer shorts Thursday, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Officials said the recruit climbed two fences, including one topped by razor wire, that separates the boot camp from the international airport and was arrested by airport security while trying to hide near one of the terminals.

He arrived at boot camp Monday.
