EAST HAMPTON, Conn., Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Two 20-year-olds were arrested and charged with three felony counts for allegedly planting a fake bomb at a Connecticut middle school, police said.
Sean Doran and Kayla Sypek, both of East Hampton, were charged with first-degree threatening, first-degree reckless endangerment and first degree breach of peace for the incident Saturday that forced officials to lock down East Hampton Middle School to investigate the planted device, the Hartford (Conn.) Courant reported.
A school custodian who was preparing to open the school for a basketball league found the fake bomb with a timing mechanism, the Courant reported.
Police, fire departments, the state police bomb squad, and technicians examined and X-rayed the device and determined it did not contain explosives, and no other dangerous items were found on the premises, the newspaper said.
Security cameras caught the alleged perpetrators on tape as they drove up to the school at 1:47 A.M. --with Sypek's 2-year-old daughter allegedly in the car -- placed the device near the doors and drove away, police said.
The two admitted they found the device among garbage on a paintball facility's grounds and then drove it over to the school, police said.
They are each being held on $100,000 bail until other arrangements may be made Monday, police said.
