Police: Man threatened to blow up bus

CHICAGO, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- A Chicago man has been charged with making a bomb threat after allegedly telling passengers he would blow up a Chicago Transit Authority bus, police said.

Caleb Russell, 23, was arrested Monday evening after he allegedly made racist slurs and threatened to "blow this (expletive) up," the Chicago Tribune reported.

Police said passengers ran for their lives after the bus driver activated an emergency signal to summon police to the scene.

Police said when they arrived at the scene, Russell made more racist remarks and told officer he was a "jihad against the white devil," the newspaper said.

The Sheriff's Office for Cook County said bail was set Tuesday at $90,000 after Russell was charged with making a bomb threat, a felony.
