WORCESTER, Mass., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- The bobcat that attacked a Massachusetts man and his nephew was rabid, town officials confirmed.

Worcester Selectman Stephen J. Comtois warned residents Tuesday to be on the lookout for other rabid animals following the incident, which took place in the man's garage Sunday. The cat bit the man's face and clawed his shoulder and neck then turned on his nephew before the man was able to pin it down and call for his wife to bring his gun to shoot it, the Telegram & Gazette of Worcester said.

The three individuals are undergoing a series of vaccinations following the attack.

Health department officials said it was not a surprise the bobcat had rabies given its unusually aggressive behavior.
