Airplane fire contained in Boston

BOSTON, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- A fire broke out in a Japan Airlines Boeing 787 parked at Boston's Logan International Airport Monday after passengers had disembarked, authorities said.

The morning fire was extinguished within an hour by the Massport Fire Department, the airport public authority's fire crew, officials said at a press conference, .

The flames were contained to a battery compartment in the Dreamliner, The Boston Globe reported.

A mechanic noted light smoke coming from the underbelly of the plane after it arrived from Tokyo, and notified the fire crew, said Steve MacDonald, spokesman for the Boston Fire Department, which assisted the Massport Fire Department.

The 173 passengers and 11 crew members who had been aboard Japan Airlines Flight 8 had already disembarked safely.

The plane was to have returned to Tokyo later Monday, but has been grounded, the newspaper said.
