Unruly passenger restrained aboard flight

NEW YORK, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- A passenger aboard a New York-bound flight from Iceland had to be restrained after he became unruly and began shouting profanities, airline officials say.

The man was secured to his seat with zip ties and duct tape during the Thursday flight aboard an Iceland Air plane, CNN reported Friday.

Airline spokesman Michael Raucheisen said flight personal took the action after the passenger began "hitting, screaming and spitting at other passengers, while yelling profanities."

The man was arrested after the plane arrived at John F. Kennedy Airport. Airline officials said he was not charged but was taken to a hospital.

A photo said to have been taken by a fellow passenger and posted to Facebook shows a man with tape on his ankles and over his mouth who is tied to the back of his seat with his legs fastened together.

The airline said it could not confirm the authenticity of the photograph.
