Burial set for soldier who died in 1950

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 5 (UPI) -- A soldier from Tennessee is to be laid to rest next week, 62 years after he died as a prisoner of war in North Korea, military officials said.

Pfc. Glenn Schoenmann's remains were positively identified in December, The (Nashville) Tennessean reported. His funeral has been scheduled for next Saturday.

Schoenmann was wounded and taken prisoner in the battle of Chosin Reservoir Nov. 28, 1950. He died Dec. 29.

Dennis Schoenmann was not trying to find out what happened to his uncle when he posted information on a genealogy website almost 10 years ago but a U.S. official got in touch to tell him the military was trying to identify what might be his uncle's body.

Ernest Schoenmann of Creave Coure, Ill., Dennis' father, and his sister, Edna Kilgore, of Monteagle, Tenn., submitted DNA samples. Two other brothers also survive.

The funeral is scheduled for Jan. 12 in Coalmont, followed by a military burial at Brown's Chapel Cemetery in Palmer.
