Terror suspect extradited from Britain

NEW YORK, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Britain Thursday extradited to the United States a Pakistani man accused of plotting terror attacks in England and the United States, U.S. prosecutors said.

Abid Naseer, 26, is expected to appear Monday in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn, N.Y., before Judge Raymond J. Dearie, The New York Times said. Naseer had fought extradition.

Naseer was indicted in November 2010 in Brooklyn on a charge of providing material support for al-Qaida. The indictment was part of a larger case involving three men who were convicted of plotting to blow up New York subways during rush hour.

The Times said Naseer was among a group of men arrested by British authorities in April 2009. The group was accused of being part of an al-Qaida cell inside England.

Court papers said the plot cases were linked by an al-Qaida "facilitator" in Peshawar, Pakistan, who used the same email account to send coded messages to one of the subway plotters in the United States and to Naseer in Britain.
