ROCKWOOD, Pa., Jan. 3 (UPI) -- A Pennsylvania chiropractor who took a gun into a school district office hours after the Newtown, Conn., shootings faces a possible five years in prison.

Authorities charged Charles King II with possession of a firearm on school property and criminal trespass after he entered the Turkeyfoot Valley School District office in Rockwood Dec. 14 carrying a concealed weapon. State police were called after a school official spotted a pistol allegedly in King's back pocket.

King, who has a concealed carry weapon permit, was charged with a first-degree misdemeanor.

"From what I understand he is allowed to carry and does so on a regular basis," State Police Cpl. Bill Link told the Somerset County Daily American. "Mr. King was not there to prove a point."

A sign at the building's main entrance says weapons are not permitted on school property, except by law enforcement.

The incident occurred the same day a 20-year-old gunman killed 20 students and six school officials at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., his mother and himself. State Police said King apparently had not heard news of the Connecticut school shootings.
