JASPER, Ala., Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Federal aviation investigators said they are still trying to determine the cause of a plane crash in Alabama that killed three people.

The Piper PA 30 aircraft went down about 10:40 p.m. Tuesday in a wooded area about a mile from the airport in Jasper, Ala., killing all three people aboard, authorities told Al.com Wednesday. The plane's owner said the three people aboard stole it.

The National Transportation Safety Board, with help from the Federal Aviation Administration, is investigating the incident.
