WASHINGTON, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Mike Gottlieb, an assistant to President Barack Obama, twice had breakfast with Florida socialite Jill Kelley in the White House dining hall, records show.

White House officials last month said Kelley, one of the two women at the center of the sex scandal that led to the resignation of retired Army Gen. David Petraeus as CIA director, had visited a "mid-level staffer" at the White House, but declined to name that person at the time, Politico reported.

But White House visitor log records released Friday identify the staffer as Mike Gottlieb, who has worked for Obama since he took office, the Washington publication said.

It was unclear how Gottlieb met Kelley, who frequently mingled with top military personnel stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla., including Petraeus, who resigned over his affair with biographer Paula Broadwell. Broadwell allegedly viewed Kelley as a threat and sent her emails Kelley allegedly viewed as harassment.

As a White House employee, Gottlieb is allowed to invite guests to dine at the White House dining hall.
