Search for plane in Yosemite delayed

MARIPOSA, Calif., Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Rescuers called off the search for a missing plane in California's Yosemite Park until spring due to heavy snow, measuring at around five feet.

The Los Angeles Times said the small, single-engine plane was last seen on radar Dec. 17 in the north area of the park.

The Times reported the pilot, Nicol Wilson, was flying to the Mammoth Lakes area from Santa Barbara, Calif.

His family reported him missing when he never arrived.

The Times said no other passengers were aboard and the search covered 8,000 square miles.

But crews said recent snowstorms made the search too dangerous, so it has been called off until spring when conditions improve.
