Editor of Ebony remembered after her death

CHICAGO, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Family and friends said Terry Glover, managing editor of Ebony magazine, was known as the heart of the staff as a writer, editor and manager before her death.

Glover's husband said she died of colon cancer Monday in her home.

The Chicago Tribune said Glover joined Ebony in 2006 and was promoted to her position in 2009.

In addition, Glover was managing editor at Savoy magazine, an editor for Uptown magazine and wrote freelance articles for the Tribune.

Glover also shot a pilot film about black Europe, the Tribune reported.

"She was really about moving the black community forward on all levels -- especially an artistic level," longtime friend and filmmaker Barbara E. Allen said. "She was dedicated to the arts, and her work has had a such profound influence."

The Tribune said Glover was born in Indianapolis, grew up in St. Louis and moved to Chicago to attend Northwestern University, studying radio, TV and film before receiving her master's in journalism from Roosevelt University.

Glover had been suffering from colon cancer for about two years.
