LAS VEGAS, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- A search for a child, missing in Las Vegas and last seen with a suspect in a slashing incident, now involves homicide investigators, her family says.

Jade Morris, 10, was to go shopping five days ago with her father's girlfriend, Brenda Stokes, also known as Brenda Wilson. Stokes is in jail and charged in a co-worker's stabbing at the Bellagio hotel Friday, KLAS-TV, Las Vegas, reported, noting there has been no sign of the girl since the incident.

Family members of Jade said Stokes picked up the girl to take her shopping Friday but never returned her home.

Investigators said Stokes allegedly stabbed another woman at the hotel at the same time she was to have been with Jade, and police noted no child was present when Stokes was arrested.

Stokes made her first court appearance Wednesday.

"They (prosecutors) said there was no child with her (Stokes) at all and they don't know where she (Jade) was," Jade's mother, Te'Juana Reeves, said after Stokes' court hearing.
