NEW YORK, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- A New York judge sentenced a 23-year-old Portuguese male model to 25 years to life in prison for killing his lover, a 65-year-old television journalist.
Renato Seabra received the maximum sentence Friday for the second-degree murder of Carlos Antonio De Castro in their InterContinental Hotel room in January 2011, CNN reported.
"This was a brutal and sadistic crime, where Renato Seabra bludgeoned, choked, and mutilated his victim before murdering him," Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said following the jury's guilty verdict this month.
Seabra, who was 20 at the time of the slaying, killed Castro after he broke off their relationship while the two were vacationing in New York.
Castro was found shortly after the slaying by an acquaintance who arrived at the hotel later in the day to see him. Seabra was arrested some time later as he was exiting a hotel where he received treatment for lacerations on his wrists.
Seabra confessed to the murder while undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.
