KAILUA, Hawaii, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Hawaiian authorities say they are readying security measures for the arrival of President Barack Obama and his family for their vacation in Kailua.

The U.S. Coast Guard said Tuesday it will enforce a "temporary security zone" in Kailua Bay starting Friday through Jan. 6. The zone is "necessary to ensure the safety of the president of the United States and his official party," a release said.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser said the zone includes a portion of the bay and the adjacent canal.

Although the vacation may be delayed due to "fiscal cliff" talks, a Honolulu Police Department source said the first family may be in Hawaii as early as Saturday.

The official schedule for the president and the White House listed no events beyond Tuesday.

The Star-Advertiser said Obama has stayed in a rented home on the beach in Kailua during his annual visits to his home state.
