FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Officials at Fort Bragg, N.C., said Tuesday a former deputy commanding general will face court-martial next year on sexual misconduct charges.
Brig. Gen. Jeffrey A. Sinclair will face nine charges, including forcible sodomy involving a subordinate, The New York Times reported Tuesday. He allegedly had sex with a captain in Afghanistan and threatened the officer if she ended their affair.
The Fayetteville Observer said the charges also include disobeying orders, wrongfully engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a major and misuse of travel funds.
The alleged incidents occurred in the past five years at Fort Bragg and other posts overseas as well as on military airplane flights, the Observer said.
The Times said supporters of Sinclair, including his wife, acknowledge he had an affair but say the relationship was consensual.
The court-martial comes at time when the Department of Defense is making an effort to prevent and punish sexual assault and harassment.
