Man in camouflage attempts school entry

BELOIT, Wis., Dec. 19 (UPI) -- A Beloit, Wis., man, dressed in camouflage, was arrested after he claimed he attempted to test the security system of an elementary school, officials said.

Dwight Miller, 58, was tentatively charged with disorderly conduct and a probation violation after he allegedly tried to enter Converse Elementary School in Beloit Tuesday, police said.

A teacher saw the unarmed suspect attempt to open a locked side door, the Madison, Wis., Capital Times reported Wednesday.

"She immediately cleared the hallway and told the front office about the intruder," a Beloit School District news release said, adding all schools in the district have locked doors and monitored front doors.

"We know everyone is concerned about school safety but we advise parents and community members not to go about testing security on their own," said school superintendent Steve McNeal.
