MEDINA, Ohio, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- An Ohio teenager who told police he attacked his family because he was "bored" has been found competent to stand trial.

Alexander Nemeth, 17, is scheduled to be tried as an adult in February on two counts of attempted murder and three of felonious assault, the Medina (Ohio) Gazette reported. A Common Pleas Court judge ruled Thursday that he is mentally capable of assisting in his defense.

Nemeth's parents and younger brother survived the assault in their home in Lodi on April 5. Eric Nemeth, who was 15, testified at a July hearing that his brother beat him on the head with a sledgehammer and stabbed him at about 1:45 a.m.

Robert Nemeth said his son stabbed him four times when he tried to rescue Eric. Barbara Nemeth said she was stabbed when she tried to call police.

Nemeth later told police he thought the assault would be "interesting."

"I was getting bored," he said.

Thomas Evans, a psychiatrist who examined Nemeth, testified in July that he had "schizoid tendencies." He said Nemeth was too young to diagnose as having full-blown schizophrenia.
