EL PASO, Texas, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- An immigrant from Trinidad and Tobago has been sentenced to 13 years in federal prison for child pornography and falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen.

A federal judge in El Paso, Texas, sentenced Garvin Cadogan, 45, Monday, the El Paso Times reported.

Cadogan pleaded guilty to downloading child pornography and making a false claim of U.S. citizenship in October. When he was arrested in February, he told investigators he was a U.S. citizen, but he had, in fact, stolen the identity of a disabled Pennsylvania man, using it to get a driver's license and other documents.

The Pennsylvania man almost lost his house after his Social Security benefits were cut off because Cadogan had used his Social Security number to get a job, federal prosecutors said.

"This individual was impacting other people, not just children," said Dennis A. Ulrich, the special agent in charge for Homeland Security Investigations in El Paso. "He took advantage of the system, and wreaked havoc on the life of a disabled United States citizen, whose identity he stole."
