ELY, Nev., Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Two people were killed in a weekend crash of a twin-engine private aircraft near Ely, Nev., authorities said.

Pilot Jerry Notham, 82, and his wife Corinne, 82, of Mesa, Ariz., died Saturday when their plane crashed 19 miles southeast of Ely, KOLO-TV, Reno, reported.

Their Piper PA31 was on its way from Mesa to Portland-Troutdale Airport in Oregon when it went down, Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration said.

There was no indication what caused the crash. The White Pine County, Nev., Sheriff's Office reported no weather problems.

One witness said the plane simply plunged into the ground, KOLO-TV said.

Local officials reached the crash site Sunday, KTNV-TV, Las Vegas, reported Monday.
