DENVER, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- A task force charged with implementing Colorado's recreational marijuana law held its first meeting Monday.

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper created the Amendment 64 Implementation Task Force, consisting of 24 members, to ease implementation of the Rocky Mountain State's first-in-the-nation law legalizing pot for pleasure's sake.

The Denver Post reported the initial meeting was largely perfunctory. Agenda items included introductions, "objectives, expectations and guidelines" and "issue identification." Amendment 64 requires the state to begin issuing licenses for marijuana stores by Jan. 1, 2014. The task force will create a framework for state legislators to use in crafting the laws required under the voter referendum, which passed Nov. 6.

The state's legislative session begins in January, meaning lawmakers and the task force will need to act quickly if implementation is to take place in 2014, the Post said.
