Students charged in marijuana-brownie case

BOULDER, Colo., Dec. 14 (UPI) -- The two University of Colorado students accused of feeding marijuana-laced brownies to unknowing classmates were charged with 18 felonies, officials said.

Mary Elizabeth Essa, 19, and Ricardo Cunningham, 21, were charged with eight counts of second-degree assault, eight counts of inducing the consumption of a controlled substance and one count each of conspiracy to commit second-degree assault and conspiracy to induce consumption of a controlled substance, The Denver Post reported Friday.

The two allegedly brought marijuana-laced brownies to class last week at the University of Colorado at Boulder,and fed them to their unknowing classmates and professor, causing eight people to become sick, investigators said.

Essa and Cunningham were released on $5,000 bond each and are due for arraignment Jan. 25.
