Clemency recommended for 480-lb. inmate

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- The Ohio Parole Board voted to recommend clemency for 480-pound death row inmate Ronald Post, who contends he is too fat to be executed.

The board also voted to recommend to Gov. John Kasich that Post's sentence be changed to life without the possibility of parole, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported Friday.

His attorneys argued assertions that he confessed to the 1983 shooting of Elyria, Ohio, motel clerk Helen Vantz have been falsely exaggerated, and Post has been fighting his scheduled execution next month by claiming in federal court he is too large to be put to death humanely, WBNS-TV, Columbus, reported.

Post contends he does not believe an injection needle would be enough to kill him or that a gurney could support him, the newspaper said.
