Hearing delayed in school bus shooting

MIAMI, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- A court hearing to determine whether a Florida 15-year-old would be charged as an adult for an accidental school bus shooting was postponed, lawyers said.

Jordyn Howe, 15, took a loaded .40-caliber handgun from his parents' home in Homestead, Fla., and passed it around his school bus before it accidentally went off, fatally striking Lourdes Guzman-DeJesus, 13, in the neck, WFOR-TV Miami reported Tuesday.

The Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office requested an additional nine days to determine whether Howe would face adult charges or be tried in the juvenile system. He is charged with manslaughter and illegally carrying a concealed firearm. Police described Howe as "remorseful," the news station said.
