Search for college student ongoing

TEMPE, Ariz., Dec. 11 (UPI) -- A search for a missing college student has led to an investigation of a Tempe, Ariz., bar where he was last seen, a spokeswoman for the state liquor board said.

Arizona State University freshman Jack Culolias, 19, has been missing since he entered the Cadillac Ranch bar in Tempe and was escorted off the grounds by a bouncer during a fraternity-sponsored pledge event Nov. 30, the (Tempe) East Valley Tribune reported Tuesday.

The Arizona Department of Liquor Licensing and Control is reviewing information from Cadillac Ranch to determine if underage drinking violations were committed at the event, spokesman Lee Hill said.

Police said Culolias used fake identification to enter the bar, where about 200 people attended the party sponsored by Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and earlier admitted concerns to his stepmother and twin brother about his initiation into the fraternity.

Alex Culolias, Jack's brother, said he was escorted from the bar for urinating from a balcony amid chants from fraternity members.

The agency's announcement comes at a time the city of Tempe announced it has begun a crackdown on fraternity-related incidents, the newspaper said.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon has been placed on probation twice since 2006, Arizona State spokeswoman Sharon Keeler said, after one person was hospitalized in a 2006 hazing incident in which new members were forced to drink alcohol, and in 2011, when fraternity members brought alcohol to a meeting in a classroom.
