TRENTON, N.J., Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Officials in New Jersey said they had no immediate complaints from motorists who filled up their cars with airplane fuel rather than gasoline.
Three gas stations in Mercer County were mistakenly delivered loads of aviation gasoline over the weekend, which could cause engine damage.
"Patrons likely purchased bad gas because the time between delivery and notification was two to three hours," county spokeswoman Julie Willmot told The (Trenton, N.J.) Times. "Mercer County has not received any calls or complaints as of this time."
The Times said it had reports of several cars stalling Friday after being unwittingly filled up with the plane fuel. The newspaper said stalls were a telltale sign the wrong fuel was being used.
Willmot said it was unclear how the delivery was mixed up, but the stations were ordered to close until their storage tanks could be drained and cleaned.
