MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich., Dec. 10 (UPI) -- A Michigan man was hospitalized after being bitten in his midsection by his 4-foot-long pet lizard, fire officials said.

The pet owner was bitten Sunday at his home in northern Macomb County and is expected to make a full recovery, The Macomb Daily reported.

"We've responded to all sorts of animal bites in the past but I don't ever recall us ever having to deal with a lizard bite," said Lenox Township Fire Chief Dennis Fouchia.

The pet lizard was not quarantined and is not expected to be, Fouchia said.
