Student slain by SoCal campus police

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Police shot a Southern California graduate student to death during a confrontation at an off-campus dormitory, university officials said Sunday.

Bartholomew Williams, 38, was killed when he allegedly became violent Saturday evening at a dorm across the street from California State University San Bernardino.

Officials told KTLA-TV in Los Angeles campus police were dispatched to the residence to investigate a disturbance involving Williams. They found him in a hallway where he allegedly got physical with the officers, who feared for their safety and opened fire, police said.

One of the officers was treated at a hospital for non life-threatening injuries. The investigation was turned over to the San Bernardino Police Department, the report sad.

The shooting took place a few hours after the school concluded its fall commencement ceremony.
