Susan Powell investigation 'scaled down'

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Three years after a young wife and mother vanished from her Utah home, West Valley City police say the investigation has been "scaled down."

Susan Powell disappeared Dec. 6, 2009. Her husband, Josh, told police he had taken his two young sons camping and found his wife gone when they returned.

Josh Powell, who had moved to Washington state, killed himself and his sons in February in an explosion and fire at his Puyallup home. Investigators had found evidence suggesting he had killed his wife, including blood traces in the house and a statement by one of the boys that his mother had gone camping and did not return with them.

West Valley police said Thursday, the third anniversary of Susan Powell's disappearance, that the number of investigators involved has been cut and the case "remains active but has been scaled down," The Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Sgt. Mike Powell, who is not related to the couple, said in a news release there is still a $10,000 reward for information on Susan Powell.

"Some investigative tasks remain to be completed as follow-ups are coordinated," Powell said. "The department remains committed to this investigation."
