DEKALB, Ga., Dec. 7 (UPI) -- A man who allegedly shot at police officers after he robbed a store was taken into custody after a manhunt, DeKalb, Ga., police said.

A perimeter was set up by police in the neighborhood of the Family Dollar store after it was robbed Friday morning, DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said.

"A customer called 911 stating she observed an individual enter (the store) wearing a ski mask and armed with a weapon," Parish said, adding the unnamed suspect left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and was taken into custody after attempting to kick in the door of a nearby residence.

Parish also said the suspect fired at police, who fired back.

A middle school and two elementary schools in the area were placed on lockdown during the manhunt, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Police said there were no injuries in the incident and a second suspect is being sought.
