PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- A Philadelphia police officer was suspended Wednesday after she was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and insurance fraud.

Investigators say April Shaynick claimed after the Aug. 9 crash her car was hit while it was parked on the street near her home, the Philadelphia Daily News reported. She filed a police report and received a $4,000 settlement from her insurance company.

What she allegedly did not know was that a pizza delivery man who witnessed a Honda running a stop sign and hitting another car had taken a photograph and gotten the license plate number, investigators said.

Shaynick surrendered Wednesday morning. The 14-year veteran was suspended for 30 days with intent to fire her.
