Murder suspect escapes with deputy's gun

DALLAS, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Dallas police recaptured a murder suspect after he escaped from Parkland Memorial Hospital with a gun belonging to a sheriff's deputy.

Franklin Davis, 30, of Irving was being held on $2 million bail for the September slaying of a teenage girl when he managed to flee, the Dallas Morning News reported Wednesday.

Davis was recaptured without injury Tuesday night but was returned to Parkland Hospital after complaining of chest pain, the sheriff's department said.

There was no word on why he had been at the hospital in the first place.

Davis was arrested for the death of Shania Gray, who was expected to testify against him in a rape case in October.

He contacted her through a fake Facebook profile and she apparently agreed to meet him thinking he was someone else, police said.

Her body was found two days later in an inlet of the Trinity River.
