AURORA, Ill., Dec. 5 (UPI) -- A suburban Chicago man charged with hoarding more than 300 birds at his home was allegedly found with another dozen by police prior to his arraignment.
David Skeberdis, 57, of Aurora, Ill., pleaded not guilty to charges by DuPage County prosecutors of misdemeanor animal hoarding in October. When arrested, Skeberdis was found with 325 live birds in his townhouse Oct. 26. Another 120 dead birds were also found in the residence, police said.
The Chicago Tribune said Tuesday that, while Skeberdis was awaiting trial, police allegedly found 12 more birds at his home. Prosecutors asked a judge to bar Skeberdis from possessing any animals until the case is concluded, but Judge Bruce Kelsey declined, telling prosecutors if Skeberdis is suspected of additional animal hoarding they could add new charges.
