SANFORD, Fla., Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Lawyers for the Florida man charged in the death of a teenager released a better quality version of a photo of their client's face taken when he shot the youth.

The photo -- released as a grainy, black-and-white several months ago -- shows blood on George Zimmerman's face and a swollen nose after his confrontation with 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, the Orlando Sentinel reported Monday.

The photo, among the latest batch of evidence prosecutors turned over to the defense, was posted on the Zimmerman legal team's blog. The defense said it would publish the remainder of the new evidence "as soon as we are sure it has been properly redacted."

Zimmerman faces a second-degree murder charge in the shooting death of Martin, who was unarmed, on Feb. 26 in Sanford. Prosecutors said Zimmerman profiled and pursued the black teen. Zimmerman claimed he fired in self-defense after Martin attacked and beat him, and his actions were allowed under Florida's stand-your-ground law.

The case drew international outrage after police declined to arrest Zimmerman. He later was charged by Special Prosecutor Angela Corey, who was appointed by Gov. Rick Scott as criticism grew.

The Sentinel also reported the defense posted on its blog a new motion asking state Circuit Judge Debra Nelson's permission to re-depose a police witness, Investigator William Erwin, saying it wasn't told before it originally deposed Erwin that he was present when police played a 911 recording of the shooting for Martin's father.
