CASPER, Wyo., Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Investigators in Wyoming say college instructor Jim Krumm managed to struggle with his son, even after his son shot an arrow through his head in his classroom.

The harrowing scene took place in a Casper College classroom Friday, and gave Jim Krumm's students enough time to escape after Krumm was shot in the head at close range by his bow-wielding son, Chris Krumm, police said.

Authorities believe Chris Krumm drove from his home in Connecticut to Casper last week to kill his father and his father's girlfriend, Heidi Arnold, a math instructor at Casper College.

Chris Krumm arrived unannounced at his father's home Friday morning and stabbed Arnold to death. He then went to Casper College where he entered his dad's classroom and shot him in the head with an arrow from a distance of about 4 feet.

Jim Krumm, 56, somehow was able to get back on his feet and struggled briefly with Chris Krumm, who stabbed his father as students fled, and then stabbed himself repeatedly before police arrived.

People who knew Chris Krumm said he harbored a deep grudge against his father, whom he believed had passed on Asperger's syndrome to him, the Casper (Wyo.) Star-Tribune said.

Friends and colleagues told the Star-Tribune the Krumms were a great couple and talented teachers.

"Jim and Heidi, they were really good friends to all, really," said

"They were really gentle and kind, just really fun to know," Ralph Anderl, a retired colleague of Arnold in the college's computer science department.
