MILWAUKEE, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- The owner of a Milwaukee-area salon where four people were killed in a shooting in October said she reopened because she felt a responsibility to her employees.

Azana Salon and Spa was back in business Saturday, more than a month after Radcliffe Haughton killed his wife, two other employees and himself Oct. 21.

"I never thought about not reopening," owner Tami Gemmell told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "I employ 65 women and they need to be able to work.

"I own the building and I built this business over the last 13 years," Gemmell said. "I refuse to let him win."

Gemmell told the newspaper most of her employees returned to work with her after the salon was given new lighting and repainted in relaxing colors.

The salon had born the scars of the shootings, which also left four people injured. After opening fire, Haughton set a small fire that set off the building's sprinklers.
