DAVIE, Fla., Nov. 29 (UPI) -- A Florida man killed his daughter, his dog and himself in a van parked at his ex-wife's house because he was distraught his ex-wife had remarried, police said.
The man -- whose name was not reported publicly -- attached a metal pipe to the van's exhaust pipe and ran it into the van, Davie, Fla., Police Department Capt. Dale Engle said.
Two children on their way to school Thursday noticed the pipe and notified a neighbor. When police responded to a call, they found the man and his dog in the van, and the man's ex-wife crying and rocking back and forth as she held the former couple's 6-year-old daughter, The Miami Herald reported.
Rescue workers were unable to revive the girl.
Engle said the man, who lived in Hollywood, Fla., and appeared to be 30 to 40 years old, had an overnight visitation with his daughter.
The couple had been separated for about a year.
The Broward County Medical Examiner's Office is to conduct an autopsy on the man and the young girl, the newspaper said.
