SAN ANTONIO, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- A woman who taught elementary school in Texas for 16 years has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for having an affair with a 12-year-old boy.

Lucinda Rodriguez Caldwell, 41, begged for a probationary sentence Tuesday, the San Antonio Express-News reported. She had agreed to plead guilty indecency with a child -- a lesser felony than sexual assault -- and to surrender her teaching license.

Her husband supported her at the hearing, telling the judge she had an "exemplary record" as a teacher.

"I have lost so much because of what I did, and I ask the court to let me stay with my family and take care of my children," she said.

Caldwell was teaching fifth grade in San Antonio when her relationship with the 12-year-old came to light. She let the boy drive her sport utility vehicle and his father recognized the car outside his house with his son at the wheel and pursued it for 30 miles.

The judge said Caldwell could receive shock probation after serving six months.
