RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Virginia Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling announced he is suspending his campaign for next year's gubernatorial race, citing the new process for nomination of candidates.
Bolling wrote Wednesday the state Republican procedure for selecting a candidate "created too many obstacles for us to overcome."
He added his concern a prolonged campaign between himself and Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli would "create deep divisions within our party," and the convention process would force Republicans to "take sides against their friends in local committees across the state."
Bolling thanked his supporters in his statement and said he intends to continue contributing to public life, the (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot reported Wednesday.
