Girl, 5, seriously wounded by stray bullet

NEW YORK, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- An 18-year-old Bronx man has been charged with firing a stray bullet that seriously wounded a 5-year-old girl returning home from a baby shower, police say.

Angel Morales was arrested late Sunday after he allegedly opened fire outside a building in the Tremont neighborhood, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

Police said the bullet hit Hailie Dominguez in the abdomen.

Hospital officials said the bullet went through her abdomen and pierced her stomach and liver. She was in critical condition at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Morales was charged with charged with attempted murder and criminal weapons possession.

Police said the girl or people with her were not Morales' intended targets.
