HAINES CITY, Fla., Nov. 25 (UPI) -- A Florida woman accused of killing her husband allegedly kept his decomposing body in her home until she was arrested, police say.
Sheree H. Peters, 56, of Haines City, Fla., was arrested early Saturday and charged with manslaughter, tampering with evidence, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia, The Ledger, Lakeland, Fla., reported.
Neighbors and relatives said they last saw Peters' husband, James Dennis Peters, 62, alive about three weeks ago. Sheree Peters allegedly told one neighbor her husband was in the hospital and told her family during Thanksgiving dinner that he went on a hunting trip in Ocala.
Relatives confronted Sheree Peters at her home Friday, but she told them she had to get gas and left. They went inside the home and found James Peters' decomposing body on the floor, covered with a sheet, deputies said.
Deputies caught up with Peters at an Economy Motor Lodge. After being arrested, she told deputies she and her husband had gotten into an argument and he was shot during a struggle for the firearm.
Peters said she asked her husband if he needed an ambulance and he said no, so she went into her bedroom and fell asleep.
Peters told detectives she sold the gun in exchange for cocaine, the arrest report said.
