JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Nov. 22 (UPI) -- A police officer in Jacksonville, Fla., took early retirement after an investigation was begun into comments he made about killing President Barack Obama.

Sam Koivisto told The Florida Times-Union a comment he would be willing to kill Obama if ordered to do so was "blown out of proportion."

Koivisto acknowledged he made comments to colleagues immediately after the Nov. 6 election, saying he would not care if the northeastern states had been hit by a nuclear bomb because they are full of Obama supporters.

"If an order was given to kill Obama or something, then I wouldn't mind being the guy," he said.

He described his remarks as "hyperbole" brought on by being upset at the election results.

He said his early retirement would be "best for everybody."
