SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- San Francisco's Board of Supervisors decided by a one-vote margin Tuesday it doesn't want to see people walking around naked any more.

The ban on most public nudity was approved on a 6-5 vote, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. If the measure passes a second test and Mayor Ed Lee agrees, it will go into effect Feb. 1 with an exception provided for festivals and parades.

Supervisor David Campos voted against the ban, saying the city had better things to spend its money on that paying police to enforce it. Other supervisors said they see it as squelching people's right to self-expression.

Proponents said they want to make sure public seating is clean.

The Los Angeles Times reported Supervisor Scott Wiener said the ordinance has strong support in the Castro neighborhood.

"I'm talking about support from everyday citizens who live and work in this wonderful neighborhood," he said.
