Mike Ditka's son ordered to jail

WAUKEGAN, Ill., Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Mark Ditka, son of former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka, was ordered to jail Tuesday for failing a drug test.

Lake County Judge Brian Hughes said he was unconvinced by the younger Ditka's contention the opiate prosecutors said was found in his system could have been from Vicodin prescribed by a doctor a year ago, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Mark Ditka, 49, of Deerfield, is facing DUI charges. Hughes raised his bail from $25,000 to $50,000. A second judge then reset it at $30,000, the Tribune said.

Ditka had provided a letter from a North Shore dental clinic indicating he had been prescribed Vicodin in December 2010 and November 2011 and could account for the positive results of a drug test taken this month.

"I have grave concerns about his ability to comply with pretrial services," Hughes said, adding Ditka also had left home during curfew hours.

Mike Ditka is recovering from a stroke he suffered Friday.
