PLEASANT VIEW, Utah, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- An 11-year-old Utah girl is in critical condition Monday after being impaled in a freak accident during the weekend, officials said.

The accident happened Saturday night as Nikki Clark went up the stairs of her Pleasant View home with a rod from a window blinds set, The Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Nikki fell and the rod pierced her chest and exited her neck. She then reportedly pulled the rod out, causing further damage.

Doctors operated to repair the damage, but she has remained in critical condition since, hospital spokesman Chris Dallin said.
