TRENTON, N.J., Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Republican leaders must move on from the election and focus on doing their jobs, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Friday.

In an interview with MSNBC, the Republican governor said he agreed with criticism of Mitt Romney's comments to donors the day after he lost the presidential race, The Hill reported. Romney said President Obama won the election with "gifts" in the form of government benefits to voters in his base.

Christie was less harsh than Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who said Romney has made it harder for the party to win national elections.

The New Jersey governor called Romney a friend and said he is probably "still a little raw" from losing the election.

"I always hate this kind of scapegoating after the election. When you lose, you lost. Someone asked me, 'Why did Mitt Romney lose?' I said because he got less votes than Barack Obama. That's why .And the fact of the matter is that more people in the country decided that President Obama was the right way to go. I voted for Mitt Romney," Christie said.

"But the bottom line is we lost, and so now what we need to do as leaders of our party is pivot and do our jobs. If we do our jobs well, people will put us back into office."
